That's never something a program wants to find itself annually relying on. So by design, the 2012 class was all about high school talent, about a foundation for the future. As it turns out, there was plenty of instant help there, too. Seven true freshmen have seen the field this year, mostly in special teams capacities, as the group collectively has already earned the distinction of being the best in coach Mike Price's nine years.

- UTEP takes on C-USA Eastern Division leader UCF on Saturday in the Sun Bowl. - The Knights are a perfect 5-0 in C-USA action with an average margin of victory of 21.4 points. - The Miners will be home for two of their final three games, including hosting Rice on Nov. 24. UTEP is 2-2 in the Sun Bowl this season. - Each of UTEP’s last two home games will kick off at 5 p.m. MT. - UTEP has been idle since Oct. 27, when it dropped a 45-35 decision at Houston. - The Miners are 6-4 when coming off bye weeks under ninth-year head coach Mike Price, including 2-4 in their last six games. - The Miners have struggled in the month of November under Price, posting a 10-21 record. UTEP has compiled a losing record in the month every year since 2006. - UTEP has lost its first game in November in five of the last six years, but the lone victory, a 28-14 triumph over SMU on Nov. 6, 2010, clinched bowl eligibility.

The last time the Knights (7-2, 5-0) traveled to El Paso, Texas the squad experienced one of its worst losses in the last five years losing to the UTEP Miners (2-7, 1-4) 58-13. Even though a good majority of the current Knights weren't on that trip or even on the team at that time, the seniors played in the game will be doing what they can to come away with a big victory in the Lone Star State.

• The Black and Gold is one game ahead of East Carolina (6-4, 5-1) in the East Division, and UCF defeated ECU Oct. 4, 40-20. However if the Knights win at UTEP, the division cannot be clinched since East Carolina has a bye. Marshall (4-5, 3-2) is the only other team with two losses or less, and UCF posted a 54-17 win over the Thundering Herd Oct. 27. • A victory at UTEP would be the sixth-straight for UCF, which would be the longest streak since a seven-game spurt in 2007. The Knights have never began a conference schedule with a 6-0 record.

UCF (7-2, 5-0) is coming off a 42-17 blowout victory against SMU to stay on top of the Conference USA East Division. UTEP (2-7, 1-4 C-USA) doesn't have many wins to show for it, but they've been competitive in all of their games including early non-conference tilts against Oklahoma and Wisconsin. The Miners had a bye last weekend. On Oct. 27 they lost a 45-35 game at Houston.
