New UTEP head coach Rodney Terry wasted no time in hitting the recruiting trail, offering 2019 guard Deon Stroud just hours after he was officially announced as UTEP’s next head coach.
Stroud, a 6’5 guard/wing from Fresno, California has held offers from San Jose State, UNLV, San Diego State, and Grand Canyon.
ESPN rates him as a three-star prospect, and was selected to the Fresno Bee’s All-Star team back in 2017 as a sophomore in high school. Future 150 projects him as a three-star prospect with a high-major college projection.
Stroud went to Las Vegas ahead of last season to play at Trinity International in hopes of taking his recruitment to the next level at the basketball focused prep school.
Here is a scouting report from Unit 1 Hoops Source from Las Vegas:
At 6’5″ Combo-Guard Deon Stroud of Trinity International, is one of the most athletic guards in Las Vegas. This young man has a lot of upside to his game. He is very explosive and has the ability to run down players and make stops on the defensive end. He can become a lot better with his mid-range game and excel with more rep’s in the gym. Young fella is a very good Prospects! Welcome to the City!
