UTEP at Army: Miners’ depth chart outlook

NCAA Football: Rice at Texas El Paso Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports

A few notable injuries on offense, and a major position change highlight UTEP’s week five depth chart against Army.

First off, UTEP will lose tight end Josh Weeks, and wide receiver Keynan Foster who both suffered injuries against NMSU that will keep them out for an extended period.

UTEP will move Walter Dawn over to the slot receiver spot in place of Foster, and expect to see more Augie Touris at tight end with Weeks out.

You will also see former Cal transfer Erik Brown continue to see his snaps increase at the X-wide receiver spot.

Dawn’s move to wide receiver clears the way for Quardraiz Wadley to see 20 carries per game, although Sean Kugler mentions Josh Fields as a guy who will see carries for the third straight week.

Kugler also reassured that Ryan Metz is UTEP’s starting quarterback, and this week there will be an open competition for the backup quarterback spot between Zack Greenlee and Mark Torrez.

Not very many changes on the defensive side of the ball other than the return of free safety Michael Lewis who returned last week against NMSU.

UTEP and Army kickoff at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday.
