UTEP Basketball: 2017 guard Raliek Redd is not an official UTEP commit

NCAA Basketball: Texas-El Paso at Rice Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

UPDATE:

According to sources, Raliek Redd was never offered by the UTEP coaching staff. Redd announced his commitment in error, and was only contacted by UTEP coaches. His Facebook post has since been removed.

Original story:

New York combo guard Raliek Redd announced on his personal Facebook page that he has verbally committed to UTEP for the still forming class of 2017.

Redd, a 6’2, 190 pound physical guard from Rochester, New York scored over 1,000 points in his prep career at Edison Tech High School. It’s unknown on what his scholarship status for the 2017-18 season will be at the moment.

He was named a first-team RCAC all-star for four straight seasons and is Edison's all-time leading scorer (1,150 points) and the first to score 1,000 points at the school.

Redd also posted 30 or more points four times in his senior season (2015-16) and averaged 18 points per game. This past season he spent a post grad year at Redemption Christian.

In December, Redd was offered by Cincinnati, and is a unrated and unranked prospect on the usual recruiting services lists.

The late signing period starts on April 12th, so expect an interesting week as Tim Floyd starts piecing together his roster for the 2017-18 season.

How Redd fits, why UTEP offered?
