UPDATE: UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull releases statement

"Keitha was one of my first hires and has been with us for 16 years. She has done an absolutely unbelievable job. We hate to see her leave, but understand the desire to go home. We can't thank her enough for everything she has done for UTEP Athletics and the women's basketball program. She has enjoyed unprecedented success and has graduated all of her players. You won't find a more quality person anywhere. The Wichita community will fall in love with her, just like El Paso has. She is a great coach and a great friend and we wish her the best."

UTEP’s beloved, and legendary women’s basketball coach is reportedly headed home to her native state to take over the reigns at Wichita State.

The Wichita Eagle is reporting that Adams is working out the final details of a new contract to take over the Wichita women’s program.

Adams spend the past 16 years building the UTEP program from scratch, and taking the program to new heights it hadn’t even sniffed before. Her new program is just 40 miles away from her hometown of Oxford, Kansas.

She went 284-209 in 16 seasons at UTEP with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2012 and WNIT appearances in 2014 and 2016. UTEP also collected six 20-win seasons, and was Adams named C-USA coach of the Year in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Its a sad day for a program that had just two winning seasons in the 25 previous seasons before Adams took over. The Shockers are getting a proven winner and culture builder who was also a pillar of consistency in the El Paso Sports Community.

We’ll keep an eye on any replacement news...
