The AP formulated 68-years of their weekly rankings, and compiled an all-time Top 100 featuring the UTEP Miners ranked as #96th.
To determine the all-time Top 100, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point each) to mark consistency and No. 1 rankings (two points each) to acknowledge elite programs. It’s a basic poll measuring the consistent college basketball programs over the time span of the AP's weekly poll, UTEP finished with 60 points.
Over the past 68-years, the AP has produced 1,100 weekly polls with a total of 200 schools making the AP poll which started ranking the top 20 teams, then was reduced to a top 10 format before returning to a top 20 format.
Of course the poll is currently a top 25 format which was expanded in the 1989-1990 season. UTEP has been ranked for 61 weeks in school history which covers 10 different seasons. The highest UTEP has been ranked was #2 for three consecutive weeks following the 1966 National Championship.
The AP has never released a poll after the NCAA Tournament.
UTEP is actually tied with Long Beach State for the 96th spot, one spot behind NMSU who is ranked #95. The only other C-USA school ranked was WKU who came in at #71.
