Paul Suellentrop, a reporter for The Wichita Eagle/Kansas.com reports that his sources indicate UTEP Women’s basketball coach Keitha Adams has interviewed for the same position at Wichita State.
Adams who is a Kansas native, has won 284 games at UTEP turning the program into a yearly C-USA contender and making NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2012. She took over a doormat program and turned the UTEP program into a women’s basketball contender, stealing the hearts of El Pasoan’s and UTEP fans with her all-world personality and A+++ character along the way in.
UTEP is one of 10 programs nationally (Baylor, Chattanooga, FGCU, James Madison, Maryland, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Uconn) to have won 29+ games at least three times in the past five years. This past season saw a group of growing newcomers producing a rare losing season under Adams.
Wichita State is looking to replace Jody Adams-Birch, who left the position in late January after nine seasons. The Shockers when 15-16 last season, but made the NCAA Tournament in three straight seasons from 2013-2015.
