UTEP Women’s Basketball: UTEP falls to LA Tech 69-61

UTEP struggled on offense early on, and were unable to close a double digit deficit for most of the game as the Miners dropped a 69-61 road game at LA Tech.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half, making 11 field goals each, but eight UTEP turnovers helped the Techsters take a 34-26 lead at halftime.

UTEP shot much better the third quarter, going 7-for-13 from the field, while LA Tech went 5-for-5 in the third, but still held on to their double digit lead.

LA Tech went to the free throw 12 times in the third quarter, making 10 freebies to maintain a 54-43 lead after the third quarter. The Lady Techsters kept their double digit lead for most of the fourth quarter with three scoring in double figures to snap their four game losing streak against UTEP.

Sparkle Taylor scored 14 points for UTEP who finished shooting 40.6 percent from the field in the game, but went an ice cold 3-for-18 from 3-point land on the evening.

Zuzanna Puc added 11 points, Lulu McKinney made all three of UTEP’s 3-point shots for nine points.

LA Tech domninated the glass with a 48-34 edge, and went 24-for-33 from the free throw line despite shooting 36.7 percent from the field.

UTEP heads to Hattiesburg for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Southern Miss.
