UTEP rolls over FIU 88-47

UTEP led for 37 minutes, had four score in double figures and more important they keep their C-USA Tournament hopes alive via a dominating 88-47 beat down of FIU.

Sparkle Taylor continues her hot stretch scoring 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists in her last game as a Miner in the Don Haskins Center.

UTEP built a 28-9 lead after the first quarter, while FIU started 3-for-15 from the field and never recovered. Tamara Seda scored 15 points for UTEP, Najala Howell and Katarina Zec each scored 13 points helping UTEP shoot 44.9 percent from the field.

The Miners forced 17 turnovers, leading to 28 points off turnovers and 18 fast break points. UTEP also hit seven three-pointers and out rebounded FIU 44-31.

UTEP’s largest lead was 77-33 after a layup from Jekeria Ford to start the fourth quarter as UTEP was well on their way to a weekend sweep.

The win improves UTEP’s C-USA record to 5-11 and has them in 11th place with a road trip to Old Dominion and Charlotte next weekend.
