Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times reports that former Tennessee quarterbacks coach Mike Canales will be UTEP’s next offensive coordinator.
Mike Canales set to become offensive coordinator at UTEP. Was at Tennessee this past year, back in the day was co-offensive coordinator with Dana Dimel at Arizona

As Bret mentions, the obvious connection is from their time at Arizona, Canales last OC job was from 2010-15 at North Texas where he was also the interim head coach twice while at North Texas.
Sources also tell Miner Rush that former Kansas State linebackers coach Mike Cox is Dimel’s top target as defensive coordinator, and when asked yesterday Dimel did not shoot that theory down, but no decision has been made as of now.
Canales returns to Knoxville next season as UTEP will play Tennessee in week three of the 2018 season.
