A mid-season quarterback competition will determine this week's starter.

The offensive shake up has already begun as Sean Kugler said Monday that both Ryan Metz and Zack Greenlee will split first team reps this week in preparation for LA Tech.

Kugler went on to say that the quarterback who brings the most energy to the offense this week will start Saturday as he does not plan on rolling both quarterbacks against LA Tech.

On the injury front, Aaron Jones' ankle injury is not serious according to Kugler. Kugler didn't give an official status on Jones but it appears Jones will be a full go on Saturday.

His brother Alvin Jones has been cleared for some activities that he hadn't been cleared for the past couple of weeks while nursing his ankle injury, and his return this week looks to be very promising.

Greg Long became the first true freshman offensive lineman to start under Sean Kugler, and will remain there this week according to the depth chart and Kugler.

Redshirt freshman Stephen Forester who played a high number of snaps in UTEP's nickel packages last Saturday is listed as the Buck backup linebacker for the first time this season.

Derron Gatewood, Darrin Laufasa, and Kalon Beverly were all injured last week, and all are on the depth chart, although no update was given by Kugler on Monday. Typically, when a player is on the depth chart you can pencil him as "questionable" early in the week until Tuesday practice.

No other notable changes were made from last week's depth chart.

UTEP and LA Tech kickoff Saturday at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.
