Just a few minor changes on the depth chart this week, with some minor tweaks behind a few starters, and a new starter along the offensive line.
First off, Anthony Kyles saw a high number of snaps at right guard last week, and is on the depth chart over John De La Rosa at right guard. Sean Kugler said De La Rosa has been dealing with a nagging injury since camp which has spurred the change.
Walter Dawn has moved up to third slot receiver, but is no longer listed on the depth chart at kick returner.
Terry Juniel, and Jaquan White who had a solid day returning kickoffs on Saturday are listed as the top two kick returners.
On the defensive side, the Miners defensive ends are listed as or's with Mike Sota and Chris Richardson sharing snaps on one side once again, and Brian Madunezim and Gene Hopkins rotating on the opposite side.
Hopkins is also dealing with a leg injury suffered in the third quarter against Army that has his status uncertain for this week. Kugler said to not count out Hopkins this week just yet, and that the injury isn't expected to be a long term one.
No update was given on Alvin Jones who is again on the depth chart after missing the Army game. With Jones on the depth chart it's an indication that he will be questionable throughout the week.
Justin Rogers has secured a spot behind Nik Needham at corner, while JUCO transfer Alex Jean-Charles appears as a reserve behind Kalon Beverly and Brandon Moss on the other side.
Freshman defensive back Jerrell Brown is also listed as a backup or even possible a nickel free safety this week moving over from corner back to provide some depth at safety.
In some interesting quarterback news, it looks like we also have a depth chart change behind starter Zack Greenlee.
Sean Kugler said on Monday that Ryan Metz will work in at QB2 with Kavika Johnson working more extensively at wide receiver and the other packages he's involved with besides quarterback.
UTEP starts their on-field preparation Tuesday with Southern Miss coming into the Sun Bowl at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.
