UTEP Football: Aaron Jones named to Maxwell Award Watch List

UTEP Running Back Aaron Jones was named to the 80th annual Maxwell Award watch list on Tuesday.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

Jones enters the 2016 season with 2,341 career rushing yards, and 16 career rushing touchdowns.

The 5'11, 210 pound athlete is one of six Conference USA players receiving recognition on the watch list. The junior currently ranks eighth on the program's all-time rushing list has scored 20 total touchdowns in 23-career games.

Last season, Jones started the first two games before a season ending injury.  In the first half versus Texas Tech, he gained 139 rushing yards on 17 carries, including a program best 91-yard touchdown rush and added a 24-yard touchdown reception.

UTEP starts their fall training camp in August.
