UTEP Basketball: UTEP kicks off evaluation period with guard offers

The 2016 summer live recruiting period has started.

To those who closely follow UTEP basketball recruiting, the past couple of months/weeks since the class of 2016 wrapped up have been slow.   And the start of the 2016 summer live period has started a bit slow compared to past years.

A couple of guards have been offered since the opening of the first evaluation period which started July 7th through Sunday July 10th.

From Thursday to Sunday over the next two weekends coaches will get a chance to evaluate, and contact talent in person via various AAU showcases or other showcase events.

Recently members of UTEP's still incomplete coaching staff were spotted at the Lone Star Classic in Duncanville, Texas.

So far, UTEP has reportedly offered Joliet, Illinois point guard Teyvion Kirk, recent Cal commit  6'5 swingman Juhwan Harris-Dyson, and 6'5 guard Isaiah Banks from Conyers, Georgia.

Floyd also offered 2018 guard Rip Economou from Santa Monica, California.

Projecting class of 2017 needs

It looks like UTEP could have one for sure, and maybe two scholarships available for 2017 at the moment, but of course the "transfer free-agent market of college basketball" always comes into play when looking down the road.

Areas of immediate need appear to be at small forward or an athletic lengthy combo wing, and rebounding depth at power forward.

Tim Floyd seems pleased with grooming Matt Willms, Kelvin Jones, and Roman Silva in the middle, so building length, rebounding ability, and an athletic defensive stopper on the wings could be a major priority for 2017.

Also offering a point guard like Kirk for back up depth maybe important to track down as Dominic Artis enters his senior year of his career.

Expect more offers to come out over the next few weeks as the coaching staff racks up some air miles in searching for prospective future Miners.
