She's UTEP's on the floor, and emotional leader, but she is also one of UTEP's finest students, and today senior guard Cameasha Turner was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic team the league office announced.
"This is a well-deserved honor," UTEP head coach Keitha Adams said. "We are very proud of her."
It is the fourth time in the past five years that the Miners have placed a student-athlete on the five-member squad. Former Miner standout and current assistant coach Kelli Willingham earned the honors in 2012 and 2013. Natasha Lacy (2008) is the only other such honoree for UTEP since it joined C-USA.
She's also on pace for league wide honors for her on-court production.
Turner has started all 26 games she has played this year, and leads the Miners in minutes/game (30.0) and total defensive rebounds (93).
The Dallas, Texas, native, is the lone player in Conference USA to be rated among the top-15 overall in for free-throw percentage (78.8-ninth), steals/game (2.1-ninth), field-goal percentage (49.1-10th) and points/game (12.7-15th).
UTEP is in San Antonio to finish the regular season against UTSA tonight at 6 p.m. El Paso time.
