UTEP Football: 2017 commit Kobie Herring named AP 2A Defensive Player of the Year

After a banner senior year, UTEP commit and Refugio linebacker Kobie Herring earned the title as Texas' Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year on the Associated Press Sports Editors All-State team that was released on Sunday.

Herring posted 132 tackles, to go along with 24 tackles for loss, and two pass break ups.

Additionally, his teammate, and fellow UTEP commit Trace Mascorro was named second team Class 2A all-state as a defensive lineman.
