Ventura Community College strong safety Kalaii Griffin announced on Twitter that he will commit to UTEP after his official visit over the weekend.
Griffin, a 6’3, 220 pound strong safety will have three years of eligibility with a red shirt option available after playing last season at Ventura and is midyear eligible.
Originally from Bethseda, Maryland, Griffin played in nine games last season recording 40 tackles, five tackles for loss, and could provide immediate help to UTEP’s depth at safety and/or a hybrid linebacker type spot.
His Ventura teammate, sophomore linebacker prospect Darrian McIntyre was also in El Paso along with Griffin this past weekend. Ventura went 8-3 last season locking up their third straight conference title
Griffin is UTEP’s fifth overall verbal commit, and the first JUCO commit with the mid-year JUCO signing period coming up on December 14th.
