The UTEP Women’s basketball team found themselves in an early bind, and couldn’t recover to end their stay in the US Virgin Islands at the 2016 Paradise Jam with a 61-40 loss to 6-0 Kansas State.
UTEP started 1-of-9 from the field, and trailed 16-2 with 4:37 left in the first quarter, although UTEP finished the quarter on a 7-0 run with the Wildcats leading 16-9 after the opening ten minutes.
K-State’s Breanna Lewis led all scorers with 21 points, and she would score seven straight during 12-2 run that put Kansas State up 28-11 with 6:12 left until halftime.
UTEP shot 23.4 percent from the field in the game, Sparkle Taylor scored 10 points, but was 3-for-13 shooting from the field.
Tamara Seda hauled in 10 rebounds, and scored five points, Roeshonda Patterson added eight points for the Miners.
The Wildcats shot 46.8 percent, and held a 41-37 edge in the rebounding margin, while UTEP struggled again from long distance shooting 5-for-27 from behind the 3-point line.
UTEP (1-5) returns home on November 30th to face Houston Baptist.
