Gilyard, 5'9, is rated as a three-star prospect by Scout, ESPN, and 247Sports, and had offers from Rhode Island, Southern Illinois, and Dayton. He also drew interest from Texas, and Georgetown during his recruiting process.
A savvy point guard, who has been described as a pesky defender, Gilyard gives UTEP three verbal commits for the class of 2017, plus a Prop 48 prospect who is already on campus.
A lefty, Gilyard averaged 13.5 points and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 49 percent from three-point range last season as a junior.
Gilyard enters his senior year with loaded Simeon Career Academy who plays in one of the top Public School leagues in all of the country.
