Chicago point guard Evan Gilyard is visiting UTEP today according to Scott Burgess from PrepHoopsIllinios.com.
Gilyard is entering his senior season at the storied Simeon Career Academy which has churned out a number future college and NBA stars including former Memphis point guard, and current New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose.
An ESPN 3-star rated prospect, the 5'10 Gilyard holds current offers from Rhode Island, Illinois-Chicago, Dayton, and Southern Illinois. UTEP offered him a scholarship back on September 14th.
He averaged 7.0 points per game, and 4.0 assists per game this past summer on the AAU circuit, and has been contacted by Kansas, Texas, and Georgetown who have gauged interest in the quick point guard during his recruiting process.
Described as a pesky defender, who is efficient in the open court, Gilyard has played significant minutes at Simeon since his freshman season which is a rarity with the talent that flows through that basketball program.
