FIU at UTEP: UTEP's Depth Chart Outlook

No major changes on Monday's released depth chart, but Sean Kugler said some personnel changes along the offensive line will happen during the week.

The only enigma in looking at UTEP's depth chart is the health of some very, very important players.

First off, Sean Kugler said on the Monday that Ryan Metz is going through the concussion protocol, and his status will not be known until he clears those hurdles.

Kugler did say that Metz's performance on Saturday lifted him in being the starter going forward once his health has been cleared.

"We're looking for a spark and he gave us that." Kugler said about Ryan Metz. "He made plays with his legs, Ryan is a fierce competitor, and he brought the spark we were looking for."

"If he's healthy he'll start this game, and moving forward." Kugler added

If Metz is unable to go, Kugler confirmed that Zack Greenlee would start against FIU, and Kavika Johnson would be the backup. Kugler also didn't rule out freshman Mark Torrez as being a backup option, although he said he would rather not burn his red shirt, but Torrez would be available in an emergency situation.

No visible changes were made to the depth chart, but Sean Kugler said they move some parts around the offensive line to avoid the holding penalties that have hurt the Miners the past few weeks.

Greg Long started at left tackle last week in replace of Jerome Daniels who was out, but was a game time decision. Long is listed at right guard again, meaning Daniels will be questionable throughout the week.

Kugler said Kalon Beverly is still injured with his hamstring after he missed his first career game last week. Freshman Justin Rogers will continue starting while Beverly recovers.

Alvin Jones continues to deal with his ankle injury, although no updated was given from Kugler on Monday.

UTEP and FIU kickoff at 6 p.m. Mountain time Saturday in the Sun Bowl.
