UTEP Football: California DB Robert Awunganyi decommits from UTEP

The Miners lost a defensive back commit after an important recruiting week.

Longtime UTEP defensive back verbal commit Robert Awunganyi decommited from UTEP today he announced via Twitter.

Awunganyi committed to UTEP back in October after Sean Kugler extended the offer which was his first FBS suitor, he was also in El Paso over the weekend for his official visit.

The loss shouldn't hurt UTEP's current plan of defensive back depth in the class of 2016 with a few offers still out to interested prospects. 2016  defensive back targets like Jassir Jordan, and Jalen Walker now could be become must-haves with the loss of a defensive back commit.

Awunganyi had shown some heavy interest in offers from Hawaii and Wyoming among others and was almost expected to back out of his UTEP commitment recently.

He also has offers from Illinois, Colorado State, and San Diego State which all came after UTEP extended their offer in October.

The loss of a quality talent is definitely disappointing, although UTEP gained recruiting momentum with three commits last week, ahead of the final recruiting weekend for the class of 2016 this weekend.
