Sources say El Paso wide receiver Richie Rodriguez has verbally committed to the Miners giving UTEP its second skill position commit for the class of 2016.
Rodriguez is currently a senior at Eastwood playing under former UTEP receiver and Montwood grad Julio Lopez who is now Eastwood's head coach.
The 5'10 play maker already has 872 yards receiving with a 21.8 yard per reception average, and leads the city with 13 receiving touchdowns in his first five games this season.
Rodriguez has gone over 150 yards receiving in four of his five games this year, racking up four touchdowns, 289 yards on 11 catches in a win earlier this season against Canutillo.
He's been a weekly highlight machine all season, and main focal point in Eastwood's passing game that averages 336 yards per game at the halfway point of the regular season.
Rodriguez was in attendance at last night's Incarnate Word game on an unofficial visit along with other local 2016 commits, and 2016 & 2017 targets.
UTEP now has eight 2016 verbal commits we have been able to confirm, Sean Kugler said he has received six verbal commits from El Paso in the class of 2016 making the official number of commits for 2016 at nine with 14 scholarships available.
