UTEP football: Pair of running backs added to roster

UTEP added a pair of possible walk-ons for running back depth, as well as some more El Paso kids.

UTEP had Houston, Texas running back Desmond Davis on the recruiting radar over the spring, and with the team leaving for camp this afternoon Davis has been officially added to the roster along with Fort Worth, Texas running back TK Powell.

According to MaxPreps.com, the 5'9, 180 pound Davis played in five games last season as a senior at Spring High School.  He ran for 384 yards, and three rushing touchdowns, he also picked off a pair of passes on the defensive side of the ball.

Powell, 5'10, 185 pounds, runs a reported 4.59 40-yard dash, and also ran an 11.55 100-meter dash on the track and field circuit this past spring.  Both are listed as true freshman.

At this point it appears that both are walk-ons, we will clarify with coach Kugler once camps starts up tomorrow.

UTEP also added a pair of El Pasoans to the roster with defensive lineman Brandon Villalobos, and offensive lineman Josh Valdez also appearing on the official roster.  Both are true freshman, and walk-ons.

Villalobos played his high school ball at Chapin High School, while Valdez played at Jefferson High School in El Paso.

6'1, 205 pound linebacker Johnny Jones from Carrollton, Texas via Jacksonville University is also a new name on the roster as is defensive back Isaac Figueroa who played his high school ball at Mayfield High in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Jones is listed as a junior, and Figueroa is listed as a true freshman.

UTEP officially starts camp tomorrow with a 9:45 a.m. practice in Ruidoso.
