2016 Forward Oliver Powell trims list, UTEP makes the cut

Oliver Powell announced his top nine schools, and UTEP is in the mix.

He's a high priority 2016 target for the UTEP basketball coaching staff, and today Oliver Powell has acknowledged their high interest by including UTEP in his final nine schools he unveiled via Twitter.

The 6'8 forward from the Garland, Texas area is a four-star prospect by ESPN, and is entering his senior year at Rowlett High School in the DFW Metroplex.  UTEP offered Powell after a stellar performance on the AAU circuit this summer.

The athletic big man averaged 12.5 points, and 9.0 rebounds last year while shooting 57 percent from the field as a junior for Rowlett.  He was also named District 11-6A's defensive player of the year last season by registering 71 blocks.

UTEP still has not had a commit for 2016 as of today, but Powell along with Austin, Texas guard Armoni Brooks appear to be on top of UTEP's wish list for 2016.
