UTEP basketball: Miners offer three 2016 prospects over the weekend

The open evaluation period is in full swing with UTEP offering three 2016 prospects over the past week of scouting.

Summertime is an important period for college basketball coaches.

In between vacations, golf trips, and the ever important family time, comes rental cars, airport layovers, hotels, and fast food feasts all of which come along the AAU summer trail in finding the future of your program.

UTEP did all of that over the past couple of weeks and offered three Texans over the weekend who starred at various AAU events.

Round Rock McNeil guard Armoni Brooks was in Duncanville, Texas last week for an AAU tournament where he dropped 29 points in a game.  Brooks who was District 13-6A's Newcomer of the Year last season added UTEP to his offer list over the weekend.

The 6'4 shooting guard is a clutch shooter, and has the potential to blow up in his recruiting process during his senior season at McNeil and during his final AAU tournament in Las Vegas this week. He currently holds offers from Houston, Rice, Indiana State, and Fresno State.

The second of the Texas Trio to be offered was 6'7 power forward Oliver Powell from Rowlett, Texas.

ESPN rates Powell as a four-star prospect, and he holds offers from Ole Miss, SMU, Kansas State, and Rhode Island.

The athletic big man averaged 12.5 points, and 9.0 rebounds last year while shooting 57 percent from the field as a junior for Rowlett.  He was also named District 11-6A's defensive player of the year last season by registering 71 blocks.

UTEP's third offer went to Jalen Harris, a 6'4 combo guard from Duncanville High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Harris averaged 18 points last year as a junior, and saw his recruiting stock rise with a solid showing in the Great American Shootout AAU event, scoring 15 points in the championship final for Pro Skills 17 this past weekend.

Verbal Commits lists his offers from LA Tech, and Incarnate Word, SMU has also expressed strong interest in the talented combo guard.

This coming week/weeken ,is the last evaluation period for coaches, so expect quite a few more offers from UTEP to go out during the course of this final and important week of recruiting.
