Jones originally committed to San Diego State last July, and recently requested a release of his letter of intent in early July of this year from Steve Fisher's program.
If he chooses UTEP, he would fill an immediate need of front-line, front court depth, and according to the San Diego Union Tribune, Jones would be immediately eligible based off his SAT scores.
UTEP has plenty of options in signing Jones despite having all 13 scholarships filled for 2015. How that process will unfold is unknown at this point.
He figures to see plenty of minutes with the need for rebounding and athletic big's mixed with UTEP newly formed stable of capable guards.
Jones also mentions taking official visits soon, it is unclear when he would take a visit to El Paso.
