After a year of practice, and motivational leadership on the bench and off the floor, senior to-be and guard Tevin Caldwell has been given an athletic scholarship for his final year as a Miner sources close to the program confirmed to Miner Rush.
The El Paso native arrived in 2013 as a walk-on from Cochise Junior College, and played in 30 games, logging 142 minutes off the bench with just two turnovers in 2013-14, his first season as a Miner.
Caldwell agreed to red-shirt this past season, and is expected man an important role in the rotation at guard this coming season.
The Americas High School alum has become a major leader on the team, and his increased role as a lock down defender and ball handler will be much needed this coming season from an experience standpoint.
Caldwell’s addition to the scholarship count puts UTEP at the max limit of 13 for the 2015-16 season.
