UTEP football: Spring ball practice interviews 3/2

Coach Kugler, Mack Leftwich, and Elliott Oldham speak after Monday's opening spring practice.

Coach Kugler talked about the quarterback competition and how they will manage the battle throughout the spring after Monday's first practice of spring ball.

The Miners will practice two more times this week before taking next off for spring break.

Vying for the quarterback spot is Mack Leftwich who also speaks to the camera, and UTEP's newest offensive weapon JUCO transfer Elliott Oldham talks about his first workout with the Miners.

In other spring ball related news, the El Paso Times is reporting that wide reciever Ziere Banner is no longer on the team and freshman defensive back Nik Neeham has been suspended.

On the good news side the Times also reports that senior corner back Traun Roberson has been granted a sixth year of eligibility to be able to play in 2015. Also noted, Derek Elmendorff and Dashone Smith are expected back in action from their 2014 season ending injuries after spring break.

Out for the entire spring recovering from injuries and surgeries will be running back Jeremiah Laufasa, tight end Hayden Plinke, and corner Ishmael Harrison.
