Familiarity, chemistry, and trust are trends that came about when Sean Kugler assembled his first staff.
And after his first coaching staff loss during his tenure, Kugler keeps the trend going with the newest addition to the coaching staff.
Graduate assistant Weston Glaser was promoted to nickel, and safeties coach the program announced today.
Glaser returned to UTEP this spring after a stint in NASCAR as pit crew coach working with both Jimmy Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
His football experience goes back to when he was under current UTEP defensive coordinator Scott Stoker as an assistant defensive back coach and video coordinator at Sam Houston State.
"Weston (Glaser) is an outstanding young coach who has great knowledge of coach Stoker's defensive system," head coach Sean Kugler said. "He has a lot of energy and will do an outstanding job."
During his three seasons under Stoker and with the Kats, Glaser worked with five defensive backs who earned All-Southland Conference honors a total of 15 times. Sam Houston State went 31-10 in his three seasons, helping the Kats to back-to-back NCAA FCS Championship Finals appearances.
Glaser is a 2012 graduate of Sam Houston State, earning a degree in History.
UTEP continues spring practice this week, with an important scrimmage set for Friday.
