UTEP Athletics announced the official signing of Arlington-Sam Houston running back Peytton Pickett who visited UTEP this past weekend.

"Peytton (Pickett) is a very talented back, who has an opportunity to figure into the mix this spring as a mid-year graduate," Kugler said. "He is a great kid from an excellent family and is an excellent student."

Pickett, 5'10, 195, rushed for 1,610 yards, and 17 total touchdowns during the 2015 season. Pickett ran for a career-high 269 yards and scored three touchdowns against Fort Worth Paschal. He also rushed for a career-best four scores to open the 2015 season against Manor High School.

He held offers from Kansas, New Mexico, SMU and had scheduled visits to Utah State and Nevada but will now enroll at UTEP for the upcoming spring semester and participate in spring drills.

Running back is the lone offensive need for the class of 2016, Pickett figures to be in the mix for carries right away, especially with a full spring practice slate coming up in the spring.

Pickett is UTEP's 12th member of the projected class of 2016, and the second signing behind JUCO offensive lineman Tanner Stallings.
