Sources: Patrick Higgins, Scott Stoker out at UTEP

Sources have expressed to MinerRush that both Patrick Higgins, and Scott Stoker are no longer a part of the UTEP football program.

Sources confirmed a UTEP Prospector report that offensive coordinator Patrick Higgins, and defensive coordinator Scott Stoker are no longer apart of the UTEP football program.

According to our sources, both coaches' offices have been cleaned out at the Larry K. Durham Center, but it is unclear if the move is mutual or a firing directly from head coach Sean Kugler.

The UTEP Prospector is the official UTEP student newspaper, and reporter Adrian Broaddus was the first to report the news, also reporting that Higgins and Stoker are two of five coaches who will not be returning for the 2016 season.

Sources were unable to confirm the other three coaches rumored to be leaving as well.

Kugler has only lost one coach during his now full three year tenure at UTEP when former Miner legend Robert Rodriguez left for an assistant coaching job with the Minnesota Vikings.

At this point it is unclear who could be in the running for replacing Higgins, and Stoker.

UTEP's offense struggled mightily this season after the injury to star running back Aaron Jones.

Higgins returned to UTEP after a stint from 1998-to-2003 under Charlie Bailey and Gary Nord as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.  Although the lack of creativity, adjustments, and production due to injuries in the 2013, and the past 2015 season may have been a reason for Higgins possible dismissal.

Stoker's situation is a little more interesting.

Despite allowing 32.9 points per game this season, and a 94th overall ranking in total defense in 2015, the UTEP defense greatly improved over the latter part of the season for the second straight year.

Stoker was hired during the summer before the 2013 season after Jeff Choate who was originally hired by Kugler as his first defensive coordinator left for a job with the University of Florida, but is now at the University of Washington under Chris Peterson.

Stoker was the defensive coordinator at Sam Houston State before his three year tenure at UTEP.

We will continue to monitor the coaching moves as they progress.
