Junior guard Jenzel Nash scored a career high 26 points, and took home tournament MVP honors as UTEP continues their strong string of defensive performances with a 67-54 win over Idaho State.
UTEP led for 32:38, and after a closely played first quarter, UTEP dominated the second and fourth quarters to start the season 5-0.
Cameasha Turner added 12 points, and Starr Breedlove scored 11 points for UTEP who made eleven three pointers, and forced 22 turnovers.
After a Jenzel Nash three pointer with 7:14 left in the third quarter, Idaho State would go on a 13-5 run to close the gap to 49-45 UTEP with 8:40 left in the fourth quarter.
UTEP would outscore Idaho State 18-11 in the fourth quarter, and despite being out rebounded 39-29, the Miners used 17 points off turnovers, and out scored Idaho State's bench 16-4 to cap off a solid weekend.
Starr Breedlove joined Nash on the all-tournament team as UTEP has now won all five games this season by double digit margins.
Nash was 8-of-15 from the field, and added seven rebounds as well as five steals, and four assists to her impressive line.
UTEP returns to action on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. Mountain Time against the New Mexico Lobos in the Don Haskins Center.
