According to multiple sources, and an El Paso Times interview by Eastwood teammate and now fellow UTEP commit Richie Rodriguez, El Paso Eastwood quarterback Mark Torrez has verbally committed to UTEP.
Torrez was offered last week after Garrett Simpson left the team capping off a strong senior season for the 6'1, 185 dual threat quarterback.
Teamed with the electrifying Rodriguez, Torrez completed 70 percent of his passes, and threw for 3,424 yards this past season to go along with 39 touchdowns in Eastwood's spread/run and gun offense. He also caught a touchdown pass this season from Rodriguez, and finished the season with two touchdown receptions.
Torrez also ran for 911 yards and 12 touchdowns this season helping Eastwood to a 9-3 record. He finished his varsity career with 8,397 passing yards with 85 passing touchdowns, to go along with 1,955 career rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns.
He has the athletic ability to move around positions if need be, but UTEP is in need of some quarterback depth so it will interesting to see if Torrez is gray-shirted for next season, or is immediately put on scholarship.
Drawing interest from Oklahoma State, Missouri, and UTPB, Torrez is UTEP's seventh El Paso commit for 2016.
Torrez is UTEP's tenth verbal commit for 2016, you can catch Torrez play in the Greater El Paso Senior Football Showcase on December 19th at the Sun Bowl.
