UTEP basketball: Floyd to appeal NCAA decision on Josh McSwiggan

The NCAA deemed Josh McSwiggan ineligible, UTEP and Tim Floyd will appeal.

After Saturday's win against Texas State, Tim Floyd addressed a report from the El Paso Times that Josh McSwiggan is having continuing issues with his NCAA eligibility.

"We've got an appeal in with Josh's eligibility." Tim Floyd said. "It's just my personal belief is that this rule is not designed for Josh McSwiggan.  Obviously a bright kid, and a good student.  We certainly need him given what we're going through with our injuries."

Floyd has shown full support for McSwiggan through this entire eligibility process, and it also appears McSwiggan's health is back to or very close to 100% for a full return.

No timetable was given on the next process which is the appeal, but UTEP will more than likely have to adjust roster wise.

With the injury and possible loss of Matt Willms for the season, Floyd had informed Christian Romine that he was going to red-shirt this season on Friday, but that plan may have changed in a 24-hour span.

"We had all intentions of red-shirting Christian Romine." Floyd said.  "And that may not happen now with this injury to Matt Willms.  In fact we told him at yesterday's practice that he was going to be red-shirted but I'm sure that he will be. We'll figure that out"

UTEP takes on Alcorn State Sunday night in the Don with a 7:05 p.m. tip off.
