People close to Lancaster, Texas guard Deon Barrett, and Georgia guard Tim Cameron have confirmed to Miner Rush that both with sign their letters of intent to play basketball for UTEP on Wednesday.
Today marks the first day of the early signing period which will end on November 18th.
Barrett is entering his senior season at Lancaster as a defending state champion after averaging 15 points, and seven assists per game as a junior en route to a class 5A title.
At 5'10, Barrett is a physical guard who will bring toughness, and is one of the top floor generals in the Texas class of 2016. He also has in the gym shooting range and already displays a high basketball IQ heading into his senior year of high school.
Lancaster opens their 2015-16 season on December 1st against Dallas South Oak Cliff.
The 6'4 Cameron is a Rivals Three-Star prospect and is currently doing a post-grad year at Hargrave Military Academy this season a year after he helped Norcorss High School in his native hometown of Norcross, Georgia to a class 6A title.
Averaging 13 points, nine rebounds, and five steals during the championship run last year, Cameron turned in solid AAU showing over the summer with a gritty nine game performance on the Under Armour Association AAU circuit.
An elite defender, and crafty scorer, Cameron is also looking to study mechanical engineering which could have been a major factor in his decision to choose UTEP.
Hargrave is off to strong 8-0 start on the year and scored 100 points in seven out of eight games this year.
As of now these are the only two known commits that plan to sign in the early period. UTEP may sign another player (possibly another big man/forward) in the late period if need be.
