Coming off a 12-16 showing a year ago, the UTEP Miners look to bounce back with a run at the Conference USA crown in the 2015-16 campaign.
Preseason selections for Conference USA were released this morning, with the Miners picked to finish 5th, as voted on by the league's coaches. Middle Tennessee returns as the favorite to win the league, followed by Old Dominion, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss.
The rankings were rounded out with Charlotte, UTSA, UAB, La Tech, Marshall, FAU, Rice, FIU and North Texas. Top team Middle Tennessee received 5 first place votes, while both ODU and WKU picked up 4. UTSA picked up the final first place vote.
UTEP senior guard Cameasha Turner was named to the 8 player preseason All Conference team, while MTSU's junior guard/forward Olivia Jones was selected as the preseason Player of the Year. No school had more than one player selected to the preseason team.
The Miners will open up the 2015-16 campaign with an exhibition against St. Mary's on November 7th, and will tip off the regular season with a contest against Houston Baptist November 15th. Tipoff in that contest is slated for 2:05 p.m. MT in the Don Haskins Center.
