UTEP football: Hayden Plinke on mid-season John Mackey award watch list

One of UTEP's most dynamic pass catchers earns a mid-season honor.

Junior tight end Hayden Plinke was named to the 2015 John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List on Wednesday which recognizes the top tight end in the nation.

Plinke leads UTEP in receiving yards with 240, recording 18 catches and has been targeted 31 times with a catch rate of 58.1%.

His best game of the season was an 87-yard out put against Texas Tech and has long catches of 57-yards and 42-yards on the season.  He has also accounted for 10 first downs on the season and averages 7.7 yards per target.

This is the second consecutive year that UTEP has a tight end named to the Midseason John Mackey Watch List. Plinke is one of seven Conference USA tight ends that are named to the list.
