The Miners appear to be putting the finishing touches on the class of 2015 as Bakersfield, California offensive lineman Ruben Guerra confirmed with us today that he has verbally committed to UTEP.
UTEP offered the 6'5, 295 pound lineman earlier this week, and Guerra committed today polishing off UTEP's 2015 needs and wants along the offensive line.
Guerra was awarded SWYL First Team All-League two years in a row, and he also was named to the All-Area team two years in a row at Liberty High School in Bakersfield.
Playing in a balanced offense this past season, Guerra recorded between 15-20 pancakes, and paved the way for a 1,000 yard rusher while leading Liberty to a 10-3 record.
A versatile lineman that can possibly move around, Guerra said UTEP was recruiting him as a tackle.
In other recruiting news, sources close to El Paso Eastwood offensive lineman Greg Long say while Long hasn't officially announced his commitment, Long is expected to sign with UTEP on Wednesday.
Long had offers from San Diego State, NMSU, and New Mexico, taking an official visit to New Mexico earlier this month, and will not take an official to San Diego State as originally thought.
Considered to be one, if not the highest rated and recruited El Paso 2015 prospect, Long's personal reason of staying close to home appears to be the Miners gain.
Check out this El Paso Times write-up on Long.
A handful of 2015 scholarship offers are expected to be in town for official visits this weekend along with some local El Paso kids who will more than likely become preferred walk-ons.
We will have a complete list of visits, and preferred walk-on candidates sometime during the weekend once we confirm who made it to El Paso.
