UTEP women's basketball: Lulu McKinney earns another C-USA Freshman of the Week award

Developing into a rising star with her stellar guard play, UTEP freshman Lulu McKinney is making the weekly award a good habit.

UTEP freshman guard Lulu McKinney picks up her third C-USA Freshman of the Week award in the last four weeks the league office announced today.

McKinney averaged 9.5 points, and 3.0 assists in UTEP's weekend road trip they split with a loss at Louisiana Tech and a huge Conference USA resume building win at Southern Miss.

She also was 3/4 from the free throw line in the Southern Miss. win with a pair of clutch makes in the final minutes and also connected on a pair of three pointers.  Reaching double figure scoring numbers against LA Tech with 10 points, she also added four rebounds, and three assists in the loss against the Lady Techsters.

The award marks the third time this season McKinney has earned C-USA Freshman of the Week as she is becoming a huge part of UTEP's consistency from the guard spot this season, also marking the first time a UTEP player has notched three C-USA Freshman of the Week honors in a season.

LA Tech's Kelia Shelton took home her second C-USA Player of the Week honor of the season apart of the weekly awards.

UTEP opens a two week, three game home stand with UTSA this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time.  Then host C-USA top contender Western Kentucky on January 22nd at 7:00 pm., then finish off the home stand with Marshall on January 24th at 2:00 p.m.
