The Commish of the C-USA announced a two year TV deal that will deliver four UTEP football games this season, and could very possibly cover a good portion of basketball as well.
C-USA and Sinclair Broadcast Group have teamed up to broadcast over 100 live basketball and football games over the next two years. Sinclair owns and operates 162 stations in 78 markets including FOX, ABC, CBS, MyTV, CW, NBC, Univision and Azteca affiliates. The network will be called the American Sports Network. (Boring name IMO)
So what does this mean to El Paso, and UTEP?
Well I was totally confused with the release from the conference, but on the way home from the office Steve Kaplowitz from 600 ESPN El Paso broke down what it all means.
The TV affiliate that is owned by Sinclair in El Paso is KFOXTV Channel 14, Kaplowitz spoke with an official from KFOX to get the scoop.
KFOX has two options to carry the game in El Paso, first off the KDBC4 alternate channel which would be channel 4-2 if you go old school with the rabbit ear antennas, or on the KFOX alternate channel which is channel 14-2.
Unfortunately for cats like me with DirecTV or any satellite carrier it will not be available, but I do believe those channels are available on digital cable at least in the El Paso market. (school me in the comment thread if I'm wrong)
This is GREAT news for people who live in the El Paso TV market, but like many of our faithful Rush residents who live outside of EP, your going to have some searching to do.
Sinclair has a pretty neat tool that shows the markets and affiliates they cover, but what I am interpreting from the release its seems as if you have to be in a C-USA market to get the games if your affiliate is owned by Sinclair.
More details like that, and of course where it will be aired in El Paso will come to light soon as C-USA has 30 football games slated for the American Sports Network this season starting August 30th with FIU and Old Dominion in non-conference tilts.
I think us the fans should be applauded on this move for speaking out that paying a fee for a online subscription is flat out well.....crap.....and now all you need is rabbit ears to view your Miners' selected games, if you live in El Paso.
