Aaron Bacote notched 25 and Old Dominion used a strong second half performance to get by Marshall 73-58, advancing into the third round of the Conference USA tournament.

It was slow going in the first 20 minutes. Ryan Taylor got Marshall on the board first :28 in, but ODU would take their first lead on the ensuing possession, and hold on to that advantage for the majority of the half.

The Monarchs would hold as large as a five point lead in the early going, before Marshall responded with a small run to take a 17-14 lead with 7:15 left in the half. The two teams would trade blows for the remainder of the half, and Old Dominion would hold on to a narrow 24-22 lead at the break.

The second half would start with eight straight from ODU, turning a two point lead into a 10 point lead just 2:15 into the final twenty. Marshall would respond with six straight of their own to cut the lead to four moments later, but they'd be unable to bring it any closer than that.

Old Dominion would lead by as many as 18 in the closing moments, before closing out the Thundering Herd 73-58. Aaron Bacote led the way with 25 points. Dimitri Batten chipped in with 13.

The 6th seeded Monarchs now advance to take on the 3 seed Middle Tennessee in the third round on Thursday. That game is set to take place at 2:30 p.m. MT.
