Marshall Slips by Florida Atlantic 63-59

14th seeded Marshall used a 25-3 first half run to jump ahead of FAU, and withstood a late charge by the Owls to hold on for the 63-59 win.

Marquan Botley and Pablo Bertone combined for 47 points, but it wasn't enough to get by Marshall as the Thundering Herd advanced into the second round of the C-USA tournament with a 63-59 win over FAU.

Florida Atlantic would jump out to a quick 5-0 just 1:09 into the contest after made buckets by Botley and Jackson Trapp, but it wouldn't take much longer than that for Marshall to get things going. The Herd would use 25-3 run over the next 8:25 to quickly gain control 25-8.

The duo of Bertone and Botley would claw FAU back into the contest, as they would trail by just six at 35-29 heading into the locker rooms.

Marshall would see their lead cut to as few as three at the 14:49 mark, but by the midway point they'd find themselves back in control with a 50-40 lead.

FAU would continue to scrap, and would be down by as few as two on three separate occasions in the closing minutes, but would be unable to come closer that, and eventually fell 63-59.

Marshall was led by by Chris Thomas who finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Kareem Canty chipped in with 12. The 14 seed Thundering Herd advance to take on the 6th seed Old Dominion at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Don Haskins Center.
