UTEP football: JUCO defensive lineman Sky Logan signs with UTEP

The mid-year JUCO transfer signing period continues with UTEP's second LOI trickling in yesterday.

The Miners have received another National Letter of Intent from a quick, athletic JUCO defensive lineman.

Hinds Community College defensive lineman Sky Logan tells UTEP recruiting insider Angel Luna that he has signed with UTEP.

Logan a native of Natchez, Mississippi is 6'2, 275 pounds and will have two years of eligibility as a Miner. He suffered a season-ending injury in the second game as a sophomore this season, though did manage half a sack, 1.5 TFL, and 8 total tackles in his limited action.

The nature of the injury that ended his sophomore season is unknown at this time.

During his impressive freshman campaign at Hinds CC, he recorded 34 tackles, including 23 solos, he also had two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.

Per 247 Sports, Logan had offers from California, and Texas State, and joins a defense that improved from living in the 100's range that past couple of seasons, to being a top 50 defense in the country this season.

UTEP adds another three technique defensive tackle that explodes of the ball with elite quickness, and has a very low pad level that helps him blow by slower guards with ease.

Another standout point watching his film is the pursuit angles he uses, and closing speed he uses to pound on ball carriers. He is pretty much automatic in stopping the run, but I feel he will help UTEP more in the pass rush department, and if healthy, possibly right away.  You could also see Logan be used as an edge rusher in some packages with his off the snap explosion.

UTEP will not announce or comment on the two JUCO signings so far confirmed to MinerRush until the period is over.

JUCO wide receiver Elloitt Oldham is the only other confirmed JUCO signing so far in the period that ends January 14th.
