UTEP football recruiting: Q&A with a pair of UTEP prospects who have the Sun Bowl on their minds

2015 high school prospects from New York Jonathan Forrest, and Dwyane Scott talk about their UTEP offers.

Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports

RB/LB Jonathan Forrest 5'11 200 pounds from New Rochelle, NY (New Rochelle HS) is a three star prospect by most outlets, and talks to us about his recruitment.

Besides UTEP, do you have any other offers and official visits?

"I have offers from Buffalo, Villanova, Army, New Hampshire, Monmouth, Central Connecticut State, and Rhode Island.  I am trying to plan one to Buffalo and I have been to Villanova already.   I will most likely be visiting UTEP at the end of January" (January 23rd).

What are your top choices?

"My top choices are Buffalo, UTEP and Villanova, as well as Temple that has been showing some interest lately."

How you describe your game?

"I am more of a power back with quick feet in between the holes.  This past season I had 12 touchdowns and ran for 600 yards in 7 games."

*** He had a Grade 1 MCL sprain last season.

What do you like about UTEP?

"My dad went to UTEP so that is definitely a plus, and I like how it's different, and how they compete in a good conference."

Accolades:

Senior season awards are pending.

Class AA First Team offense

Selected Player of the Year by The Journal News Rockland County

He is very an elusive back with good vision. He is not afraid of contact and hard to take down.  He is very similar to Nathan Jeffery.

2015 Offensive lineman Dwayne Scott 6'2 290 pounds from White Plains, NY (Archbishop Stepinac HS).

Seem to be a better fit as center.  He has good playing strength to lock on to defender. He will locate punch and finish blocks to the ground

Any offers?

"Yeah I have 5 offers: UTEP, Sacred Heart, Rhode Island, New Haven and Pace.  I like UTEP they had a good year, the offensive line is awesome, and I can't wait for my official."

How was your season?

"We did well. We went 12-1 winning the AAA Championship but losing in states to Canisus.  We did well running the football averaging about 300 yards on the ground. I achieved linemen of the year for the CHSFL and All-League."

So you are supposed to take an official visit in January 23rd with RB Jonathan Forrest. Are you excited about the possibility of both of you playing at UTEP?

"Yeah, it would be awesome, just going to see how the official plays out."

Quote from his coach via The Journal News out of the New York area:

"Dwayne is the best offensive lineman we've had at Stepinac since I've been here," Crusaders head coach Mike O'Donnell said. "He worked so hard this offseason. If he was 2 inches taller, he'd be getting recruited by everyone in the country. That being said, Dwayne does what he is asked 24/7. I have not seen a lineman in the area as good as him since Austen Fletcher at St. Anthony's and John Sullivan at Greenwich."
