High school guard Najala Howell, and 6'4 JUCO forward Tamara Seda have sent over their letters of intent to play basketball for Keitha Adams and the Miners.

Seda is ranked as the 20th overall JUCO prospect in the country, though sat out last season due to a preseason injury.  She will have three years of eligibility with the Miners, and through three games this year as a red-shirt freshman this season she has averaged 16.7 points per game and 10.3 rebounds a game while also adding 3.7 assists per game.

During her senior season of high school in her native home of Maputo, Mozambique, Seda average a triple-double with an 18 point per game average to go along with 12 rebounds, and 10 blocks a contest.

Coach Adams on Seda

"She is one of the top post players in the country in the junior-college ranks. She gives us some legit size in the post. She can score around the basket, rebounds it well and blocks shots on defense. She will have three years at UTEP, and that is a bonus".

Howell hails from DeSoto, Texas and is ranked as a top-20 player in the State of Texas.  Last season as a junior she averaged 17 points, 5.7 rebounds, while shooting 48 percent from the field in earning 2014 First Team All-State from the TABC.

She is also rated as a four star prospect by Prospect Nation, and standing at 5'10 she will bring much needed and hard to find size from an athletic guard.

Coach Adams on Howell

'She is a very athletic guard and forward who can score by attacking the basket. She can play both inside and out and rebounds the ball well. I love how she plays hard, and that she is very active on defense. We're very excited to have her join our program".

The Miners open up their 2014-15 campaign tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. hosting the New Mexico State Aggies in the Don Haskins Center.
