ITS OFFICIAL: UTEP Signs Three During Early Signing Period

Three UTEP commits made it official today, adding three to the class of 2015.

Paul Thomas, Lee Moore, and Christian Romine have all sent over their letters of intent UTEP Athletics confirmed to MinerRush this afternoon.

Thomas a 6'8 combo forward from Houston is rated as a four star prospect and the 15th best player in the State of Texas by ESPN.  Thomas saw his stock rise with a strong AAU showing this summer playing against the top 2015 players in his class over this past summer.   The two time All-Conference player starts his season this week for Summer Creek High School in the Houston area.

Coach Floyd on Thomas:

"Paul is an excellent athlete who plays above the rim and can really run,He has a strong skill level to where he can even play out on the perimeter. He is an excellent passer and ball handler who really sees the floor."

Joining Thomas as UTEP signees are fellow 2015 high school big man Christian Romine, and highly regarded JUCO guard Lee Moore.

Moore will play for Wallace State this season, and the 6'5 guard has two seasons of eligibility for the Miners.

He averaged 18.2 points, adding in 7.2 rebounds a game last year, and is ranked as the 8th best JUCO player in the country per 247 Sports.   Moore hails from Kennesaw, Georgia, and is a key piece in what is expected to be a big year for Wallace State.

Moore brings so much versatility at guard, with his athleticism, scoring, and rebounding abilities that are already mature enough to make an impact.

Romine hails from Mahomet, Illinios, and averaged 10 points and 8 boards last year as a junior.  Rivals has the 6'9 prospect rated as three-star prospect, and they also rank him as the 18th best overall player in the state of Illinois.  More of a project player, there is denying the upside the 17-year old will have once he develops in Floyd's system.

Floyd on Romine:

Christian is a young player who won't turn 18 until next August,  He has a lot of upside and a very high ceiling. He can really rebound the basketball. He is a guy that has a developing offensive game. He has a good skill level and can step out and hit a jump shot."

With three of four available scholarships available, UTEP has plenty of options for the fourth.

Assistant Coach Bob Cantu spoke with us last night, and told us UTEP has the option of bringing in a mid-year transfer, and also expressed the want for another interior player for the late signing period in April.

The class of 2015 is almost complete, but not done yet, stay tuned we will bring any new updates.
