The UTEP basketball recruiting news continued today as earlier we found out that guard Trey Touchet out Lafayette, LA has committed to play for the Miners. Andrew Lopez from Nola.com first reported the news early this afternoon.
Touchet, a 6'2 180lb combo guard, averaged 20 points, 4.8 rebs, and 2 assists, while shooting 41 percent from behind the arch last year as a junior. He will play his senior year at St. Thomas Moore in Lafayette, a team he led to a 33-4 record en route to a state title.
With his ability to consistently stroke the trey and shoot a high percentage from the field, Touchet could mainly be relied upon as a shooting guard, but he is described as a combo guard by Lopez, so I'm sure he could run the point if needed to.
LA Tech, LA-Lafayette, Sam Houston State, Tulane and Stanford were all in the running for his commitment, along with the Miners.
