UTEP to Take on Tennessee in Opening Round of Battle 4 Atlantis

Today the Battle 4 Atlantis basketball tournament bracket was revealed, and while many expected the Miners to take on USC in the opening round, that won't be the case.

USA TODAY Sports

The UTEP Miners and the Tennessee Volunteers will square off November 28th on Paradise Island in the Bahamas in an opening round matchup in the Battle 4 Atlantis. That will be the nightcap game with tip slated to be at 9:30 E.T.

Other opening round games include Kansas vs. Wake Forest and Villanova vs. USC on one side of the bracket, with the Miners' game and a contest between Xavier and Iowa rounding out the other half of the bracket.

In ESPN's projected top 25 for the 2013-14 basketball season, the Tennessee Volunteers are the 24th best team in the nation, while Iowa is 25th. On the other side of the bracket, Kansas is projected as the number 5 team in the nation, while Villanova was one considered for the list.

No matter how this tournament plays out, the Miners are virtually guaranteed to play 3 games against some nice competition. Of course, we're all still waiting to see exactly what the Miners will look like heading into that tournament, but either way it will be some great exposure and experience for whoever is on the floor.
