Senior Kayla Thornton scored a game high 22 points and Christine Vitola added 9 points and 9 rebounds as UTEP crusied past the St. Mary's Rattlers 81-51 Saturday afternoon in the Don Haskins Center.
The Miners took a 40-17 halftime lead and never looked back as guard Jenzel Nash returned and added 10 points. UTEP also had four different players in double figures and out rebounded St. Mary's 45-36 and lead 63-28 with twelve minutes left in the second half.
The Lady Miners shot 44.4 percent from the field and also hit nine three pointers. The Miners did turn the ball over 25 times something coach Keitha Adams says she will like to see improve and cut in half.
Adams and her Miners will now prepare for their regular season opener next Friday 7:05 PM against UTPB in the Don Haskins Center.
